As Boris Johnson was elected the new Prime Minister in waiting, one Somerset school who hosted him gathered its young leaders of the future.

At the very same minute that Boris Johnson was elected to become Prime Minister, students at The King Alfred School Academy gathered for a course in leadership.

The new Head Boy and Head Girl team, and Student Council watched the coverage on the TV before being trained by English teacher Lizzie Harvey, who has the Queen’s Scout Award and has written leadership material for the Scouts nationally.

Three weeks ago Boris visited TKASA with MP James Heappey, and described it as “wonderful”. He was then quizzed by Jill Dando news centre reporters which was seen by over 30 million people in the media.

Jacob Kemp, deputy head boy and Jill Dando reporter, who was one of the leaders who gathered, said: “It is such an amazing thought to know that the new Prime Minister came to our school, and I got to speak to him.

“We are honoured to be able to have this opportunity and hopefully he remembers us and will come back one day!"

TKASA is a school that prepares students for a successful life in their chosen career.
