On June 26th, blood, sweat and tears lay ahead of the music department as we focused our efforts on bringing the most coveted trophy in all of Somerset to Highbridge for the first time in its history. It was a tall order as this was our debut appearance at this event, with strong competition from BotB veterans from Robert Blake, Chilton Trinity and reigning champions Haygrove, but Canvas Moon and The Atoms threw everything they had into this competition - they were on a mission to win!

In the key stage 3 section of the competition, THE ATOMS took to the stage with absolutely outstanding performances of Zombie by the Cranberries and Hysteria by Muse. Whilst they were unlucky not to be in the prizes, they received exceptional praise from judges and audience members, with Oliver Cohen in year 7 being highlighted for his excellent handling of the notoriously difficult bass guitar part in Hysteria. It is quite unbelievable to listen to this band in the knowledge that not one member had played an instrument this time last year - the standard they have achieved both individually and as a band is testament to their exceptional dedication and practice! A special mention must also go to year 8 student Amy Dunn, who delivered a fantastic vocal performance to consolidate her position as The Atoms new lead singer! Watch closely - this band are definitely one to watch!

Canvas Moon represented TKASA in the key stage 4 section of the competition. They wowed the audience “When September Ends” by Greenday and Nirvana’s “In Bloom”! The standard of bands from all schools was excellent, leaving the judges with an extraordinary difficult job in deciding on a winner. Whilst they deliberated, we were treated to a stunning performance from Priory School’s Kezia Povey accompanied by our very own Jack Millier! Eventually, the judges were able to reach a decision, and TKASA’s CANVAS MOON were crowned KS4 champions and Sedgemoor Battle of the Bands Overall Champions 2019, with yr 7 drummer Joshua Ford also picking up the award for best instrumentalist! In addition to the trophy, CANVAS MOON have also won a session in a professional recording studio later on this year - we look forward to sharing the end product with you!
