Design and Technology Curriculum Overview

Our vision: We want all students to be specialists in our subject area. We want to teach concepts and life skills that will enable students to excel in an ever changing world of technology as well as trying to minimise their impact on the environment.

We have three key concepts we want our students to be adept with.

Creativity Technical Knowledge Practical Expertise

We have a knowledge rich curriculum that addresses the 4 key strands of the D&T National Curriculum that run from KS3 to 5

1. Technical Knowledge

2. Design

3. Make

4. Evaluate

Our KS3 Curriculum

We deliver 3 projects per year – Student have 3 lesson over their 2 week time table.
They will complete one subject focus project for each of these lessons throughout the year. This enables our students to build their skills and knowledge throughout their year.

Further KS4 Curriculum

We offer 2 additional subjects to our students here at TKASA through the D&T department:

Engineering WJEC Vocational level 1/2

Hospitality and Catering WJEC Vocational Level 1/2

Throughout KS3 students have practiced relevant skills and technical knowledge to support them in all 3 of these courses. Within these courses they will build on this through theory and practical based tasks.

At Key Stage 5 we offer Edexcel/Pearson A-Level Design and Technology (and Health and Social care – click here)
